The Center for Dance, a six story building containing 115,000 square-foot facility located in downtown Houston at the intersection of Smith and Preston Streets. Gensler designed this stunning building with many sustainable features, dance studios, a dance laboratory that seats 200 for presentations as well as rehearsals, and artistic, administrative and support offices for The Houston Ballet and its academy. Houstonians can boast that it now has the largest professional dance company facility of its kind constructed in the United States thanks to the vision of Managing Director C.C. Conner, Jr. and efforts of so many devoted patrons

The exterior façade consists of individually selected Shanxi Black Granite slabs, combining honed and polished in a variety of sizes installed in a vertical pattern. The vision the architect had of the movement the stone variation creates as the sun rises and sets around it is that of a dance. The Gascogne Beige limestone is a warm inviting stone that welcomes all who enter the facility.
